The Fort Smith Public Library is supported by 1 mill property tax paid by individuals who live inside the city limits of Fort Smith.
Fort Smith residents age 5 and older are eligible for a free library card. To apply, bring printed proof of your current Fort Smith address to any library location. A parent or guardian’s signature is required for children under the age of 16.
Individuals who live outside Fort Smith but own property in Fort Smith are also eligible for a free card. Present your tax collection receipt, tax statement, or mortgage papers to apply for a card.
Individuals who live outside the city limits of Fort Smith may purchase a non-resident library card for an annual fee of $35. One card may be used by everyone living in the same household. To apply for a non-resident card, bring printed proof of your current address to any library location.
Library cards with limited privileges may be issued to customers who are currently without a residence or who are living or working in Fort Smith on a temporary basis. Ask at any library location for more information.
UA Fort Smith students, faculty, and staff may use a current semester UAFS ID to check out materials at any Fort Smith Public Library location. Fort Smith Public Library cards are also accepted at the Boreham Library on the UAFS campus.
Library cards issued to Fort Smith residents are valid for two years. Non-resident library cards are valid for one year. To renew your card, bring proof of your current address to any library location. If your card expired so long ago that the information has been deleted from the library database, you will be asked to fill out a new application for a library card.
Log into your library account online to place holds, see what you have checked out, renew items, check due dates, view fines or fees, and more. A password is required for online access. Access to your account is available through the My Account link on the library home page, by visiting My Account, or by clicking “Log In” in the upper right corner of the library catalog.
To log into your account, enter the barcode number from the back of your library card and your password.
To request a password for access to your online account or if you have forgotten your password and need it reset, visit one of the four library locations.
You can also contact the Circulation Desk at the Main Library or any branch library for assistance. Please have your library card available when calling and be prepared to provide your date of birth, address, phone number, or other personal information so the staff can verify your identity.
To change your password online, log into your account and click on “Change Logon.”
If a library item is lost or damaged, the library customer is charged the original retail price of the item plus a $10 processing fee. If the lost material is located, the retail price will be refunded, but the service fee is not refunded. The library doesn’t accept donated or replacement items in lieu of payment for lost or damaged materials.
Alert the library as soon as possible if your library card is stolen so your card can be deactivated. If you lose your library card, a replacement may be purchased for $2.
If your address changes, notify the library as soon as possible and bring printed proof of your new address to any library location. If you move outside the city limits of Fort Smith, you must purchase a non-resident library card in order to check out materials.
If your phone number or email address changes, notify the library so that we can update your contact information for reserve requests, overdue notices, library news, and more.
