Come Together (well, virtually)!

Come Together (well, virtually)!

This is an interesting time, isn’t it? With the COVID-19 issue being so prevalent in the world, safety is the first priority. With that said, it’s also important to maintain some degree of normalcy.  To all the teens out there, here are some ideas to host your own virtual Teen Lounge while maintaining your social distance:

First things first, you’ll need snacks. That goes without saying.

Next, come up with something you all can do “together” via FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, etc. It could be anything- get creative! Many crafts can be made out of stuff you already have at home. Slime can be made from Elmer’s liquid glue and liquid laundry starch (just don’t drop your phone in it!). There are endless recipes for this online.

Don’t feel like getting messy? Try crafting your own poetry from old books or magazines. There are several ways you can do this- either cut out the words and paste them on a blank sheet of paper (collage-style), or simply black out the words on the page that you don’t want (see picture for an example). The ideas for this one are limitless, both with words and colors.

Maybe you’re not the crafty type. No problem. Pick out a good recipe online (something easy that you have all the ingredients for at home). Go through the recipe and cook together! You might not consider yourself a chef, but collectively you might come up with something really good.

And of course, there’s the good old-fashioned Book Club. Pick a book or graphic novel that you have been interested in for a while but have yet to read (remember, the library is still doing curbside pickups!). Also, be sure to check out our library database online for some awesome resources like Library2Go and hoopla. They offer free eBooks and audiobooks (along with lots of other cool stuff) to anyone with an up-to-date Fort Smith Public Library card! If you are having trouble with your library card, please contact us!  Read and discuss the books together. This is a good way to relax and occupy your mind while not feeling so isolated.

No matter how you choose to spend your time, remember two things: 1) You are not alone, and 2) This will pass. Keep your head up, stay safe, and explore new ways to have fun with those you love.
