Audiobooks

Just more books to love!

June is Audiobook Month and it’s a great time to try out an audiobook, if you have never given them a chance.  Why audiobooks?  They offer just one more way to enjoy more BOOKS!  What’s better than that?  If it’s hard to find time to sit down and read a book, an audiobook will make cooking, cleaning, working out, and other errands, more entertaining!  Make long summer road trips with the children a breeze with a family-friendly audiobook playing.  Listening to books can create a different experience for readers of all ages and your Fort Smith Public Library conveniently offers several different ways to start listening.

Library users can check out audiobooks on CD from any of the four library locations.  Each library card is allowed up to six audiobooks checked out at one time.  The library has an excellent variety of genres that span all age groups.  You can search our online catalog here to find out what’s available and reserve one today!

Phone with Libby App

For customers who prefer to stream and download, the Fort Smith Public Library offers Library2Go and Hoopla.  Both resources allow library customers to check out ebooks and audiobooks through their free apps– and you’ll never have to worry about accruing a late fee!

Many newer vehicles can stream content directly from a smart phone, through the car’s speakers.  This makes it easy to listen to audiobooks in a car, with only a few clicks on a phone.  Benefits of downloading audiobooks is the ability to speed up/slow down the speed, set a timer so your audiobook shuts off automatically after a set amount of time, and being able to listen anywhere and not have to worry about what track and disc you were last on.

If you have children, you can use your library card to explore Tumblebooks on a computer or through a mobile app.  Tumblebooks has interactive picture books with animation, sound, music, and narration.  Children can enjoy reading in a whole new and exciting way!  Beginner readers can follow along with the narration and improve their reading skills.

Want another reason to try audiobooks?  During the summer, anything checked out from the library – books, DVDs, AUDIOBOOKS – can be used by teens and adults to earn a chance to win weekly prizes and an end-of-the-summer grand prize.  Go to ReadSquared to sign up for the Summer Reading Program!

Hope this encourages you to try an audiobook during the month of June!
