The Main Library will be closed on November 8th so that staff can set up for the annual Black Tie Bingo library fundraiser. All branch locations will remain open.

Jennifer Pharr Davis: Athlete, Author, and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year

 

Join us for an evening with Athlete, Author, and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Jennifer Pharr Davis on Tuesday, June 11, at 7 PM at the Main Library (3201 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith).  Jennifer Pharr Davis is a lover of long journeys and good stories.  She is an author, speaker, record setter, and 2012 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year who has covered more than 14,000 miles of long-distance trails on six different continents.

In 2011, she set the overall fasted known time on the 2,181-mile Appalachian Trail by hiking 47 miles a day for 46 straight days, becoming the first woman to set the mark on the "A.T." Jennifer has authored seven books, including her latest critically acclaimed work, The Pursuit of Endurance: Harnessing the Record-Breaking Power of Strength and Resilience.  She has also written three guidebooks and two hiking memoirs, as well as articles for the New York Times, Outside magazine, Backpacker, Trail Runner, and Blue Ridge Outdoors

She will be sharing slides and stories, answering questions, and signing copies of her books, which will be available for sale and signing at this engaging evening event for all ages.  Jennifer is the founder and owner of Blue Ridge Hiking Company, a guiding service that "strives to make the wilderness accessible and enjoyable" for hikers of all ages, genders, and ability levels.  She has served as a board member for the Appalachian Trial Conservancy and ambassador for the American Hiking Society.  She lives in Asheville, North Carolina, with her husband Brew, their daughter Charley, and son Gus.
