Black History Month
February is Black History Month, celebrating the achievements of African Americans and recognizing their central role in U.S. History. The library invites you to help in this celebration by attending one or more of our featured programs this month.
Join us on Saturday, February 15, at 2 PM at the Main Library for a special performance of Reclaiming Your Roots, an interactive show for all ages performed by Rooted Movement Collective. A touring dance group, Rooted Movement Collective is dedicated to educating and spreading the radical joy of African American dance forms, culture and history.
A Black History Film Festival offering classic matinee films featuring black actors and/or directors will be shown at 2 PM at the Main Library each Friday in February.
In addition, Saturday Cinema at the Windsor Branch Library will feature Just Mercy (PG-13) on February 22 at 11 a.m.
Can you find Mae Jemison, Harriet Tubman, and Frederick Douglass at the Library? Stop by the Youth Services Department to take part in the Black History Month scavenger hunt.
If you want to learn more about Black History, we have a lot of great books and other resources. You can find some of our children’s titles on our Children’s Services blog.
