The Miller Branch has a seed catalog!

BORROW, PLANT, HARVEST, & RETURN

The Miller Branch has started a seed catalog.  Every other month, we are offering a different packet of seeds that you can take home and plant.  Earlier this year sunflower and pumpkin seeds were passed out.  Now, during the month of August, we are handing out packets of broccoli seeds.

Don’t know how to grow broccoli?  No problem!

If you are planning on starting your seeds outdoors, you’ll need to sow the seeds ½ inch deep and 3 inches apart, in a spot with full sun.  Once the seedlings are 2 or 3 inches tall, you can thin the plants so that they are 12 to 20 inches apart.  If you’d rather start your seeds indoors, you’ll need to transplant them when they are 4-6 weeks old.  Water well at the time of planting and every week.  Do not water the broccoli heads because that can cause rot.

After harvesting your broccoli, bring back some of the seeds to the Miller Branch and we will hand them back out next year!

Whether you are new to gardening or just starting to learn about growing your own plants, we hope you’ll swing by the Miller Branch and pick up a packet of seeds from our seed catalog!

FUN FACT: People originally only ate broccoli stems!
