Tails & Tales for Kids

Tails & Tales for Kids

Are you ready to read and earn prizes?

Are you ready for the Tails & Tales summer reading program?  It's time to sign up for the library's online reading program!  It's easy and fun!  Kids 12 and under can earn points for time spent reading.  Register, track your reading progress, and earn badges online at  https://fortsmithlibrary.readsquared.com/.  You will also be able to download the READsquared app (available for iOS and Android devices). For more information, watch this Tails & Tales video!

Log the time you spend reading!

Every minute you spend reading counts as one point.  For example, if it takes an hour to read a book, you'll earn 60 points.  If you read for 20 minutes, you'll earn 20 points, and so on.  If you aren't reading by yourself yet, you can count the time you spend listening to books.

Prizes!

Once you reach 1,000 points (for reading 1,000 minutes!), you'll earn your LIBRARY PRIZE BAG filled with summer reading items and food coupons!  Readers and listeners will also be entered to win an end-of-summer grand prize.  Independent readers may also visit the library to pick out a book that will be dedicated to their reading achievment!  You'll go down in Tails & Tales history!

Page Turner Adventures!

New this year!  Page Turner Adventures!  Each week will include Show Day (interactive show), Craft Day (simple, fun crafts!), Author/Illustrator Day (short interviews with some amazing authors!), Mashup Day (recipes, games, bonus crafts, and other fun stuff), and Special Guest/Field Trip Day (a virtual visit to some amazing places and people!)  Be amazed by the Page Turner Adventures!

Missions and Games

In addition to earning points by spending time reading, you can also earn points by completing missions!  Plus, they are fun!  So are the games that are available for you to play in READsquared.

Who do I thank?

The Summer Reading Program is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Arkansas State Library under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act.  Additional funding is provided by the Friends of the Library. Our community partners that donated coupons for the library surprise bags are:  Burger King, Hardee’s, Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, McDonalds, Papa Murphy’s Pizza, and Texas Roadhouse.
