Summer Reading is Blasting Off!

Summer Reading is Blasting Off!

The children’s summer reading program encourages reading for pleasure and is designed to minimize summer learning loss. The objective of the summer reading program is to keep kids actively engaged in reading while encouraging family involvement at the same time. Preschool children who are too young to read independently can also participate. Because the best way to raise a reader is to read to a child, they will receive credit for the books read to them.  The theme this year is A Universe of Stories, so get ready for a universe of fun!

How Do I Get Started?

You can register anytime!  Sign up at the library location where you want to claim your prizes. Prizes will be awarded beginning June 1st!

Listener? Get a reading log to write the titles of the books you listen to.

Reader? Pick up a bookmark (or two!) to count the hours you read.

Who Do I Thank?

The summer reading program is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the  Arkansas State Library under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act. Additional funding is provided by the Friends of the Library. The following businesses are long-time supporters of the Summer Reading Program:  Dewey's Cafe, Burger King, Hardee's, McDonald's, Sonic, Texas Roadhouse, Fort Smith Parks & Recreation, and Parrot Island Waterpark.
