Program Description
Local author Joyce Faulkner will make a special appearance with co-author Dr. Micki Voekel to promote and sign copies of their book Garrison Avenue. This work of historical fiction is about the only lynching in Fort Smith, Arkansas, during the Jim Crow era. Filled with drama, humor and tragedy, it explores where we have been as a city—and welcomes conversation about the choices of our ancestors and our own ideas for the future.
Joyce Faulkner has written many books, but his is the first to focus on her hometown. After her fiftieth high-school reunion, she and her husband planned a four-month research trip to the area. What she found was a city steeped in adventure, intrigue and great characters—enough to feed a writer’s soul for years to come. They moved back permanently in the spring of 2018. Garrison Avenue is the first in a new series of Joyce Faulkner books set in Fort Smith. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing at this open-house style event.
