Local author Kerrie Taber will appear at the Fort Smith Public Library to promote and sign copies of her book, Quarantining Hate. Taber uncovered a horrible truth about her grandfather's actions during World War II. After seeing the rise of hate-based crimes, she decided to use her story along with research to show how hate can be prevented from spreading when society pushes back against it. Quarantining Hate is a journey of trying to understand how the grandfather she loved could do the deeds he did, and how there could be hope to turn the tide of rising hate-based violence. The book is a combination of memoir, history, sociology, and psychology with a little hope added in.
Kerrie Taber grew up in Northern Ohio. After receiving a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Toledo, she worked for a high tech company in Austin Texas where she had the opportunity to travel to several overseas. After obtaining her MBA and Doctorate of Management, she moved to Fort Smith to teach at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. Over the past thirteen years, she has become a part of the Fort Smith community; coaching soccer, serving local nonprofit board, and helping put on fundraising events. Copies of Quarantining Hate will be available for sale and signing at this open-house style event.
