AARP Webplace — This online arm of the American Association of Retired Persons includes some interesting information. Among other things, you can share memories of the past with other AARP members, learn about upcoming events of interest to seniors, benefit from AARP's research into areas affecting seniors, and gain access to AARP's Web links for seniors. You don't have to be a member of AARP to enjoy this web site, but you can join online if you choose to.

AgeNet — An informational site that contains information and helpful articles about geriatric health and medication, legal and financial information for seniors, insurance, caregiver information, and more. Well worth a look.

ElderNet — Find links to information on health, law, investing, family, hobbies and activities, senior housing, and senior lifestyles in this "gateway to the Internet" for senior citizens. The annotated links to sites of interest make it fun to cruise around this site. There is something for everyone here!

FirstGov for Seniors — This government-sponsored site provides access to government services and information all in one place. You can find information about benefits such as Medicare (and more), health and nutrition, consumer protection laws, taxes, employment and volunteer activities, and more. A great site for seniors!

SeniorCom — This site includes links to the online versions of several senior magazines, health and wellness (including an online directory of doctors), travel, hobbies and lifestyle information, science and technology, and more. Membership is free. The SeniorCom Town Square provides links to "the best of the Web," and there are chat areas where seniors can talk to each other online.

SeniorNet — Use this site to get involved with free online Round Tables that discuss recent books, computers, health, travel, hobbies, and a host of other things. You will also find links to Web sites, news groups and listservs of interest to seniors.

SeniorsSearch.com — This directory of Internet resources is geared towards senior citizens. You'll almost certainly find something you are interested in, with categories such as antiques, bus tours, hobbies, "Just for Grandparents", an e-mail directory, volunteer opportunities, and even an "Oldest Internet Surfer" contest. (The previous winner of the contest was 91 years old.)

Third Age — Members of this site (you can join for free) can chat with other seniors online, get free e-mail accounts, and access online resources on many different topics, including shopping, health, family, romance, dancing, work and travel.

Yahoo! Senior's Guide — Yahoo, one of the most well-known subject guides to the Internet, maintains this guide to information for senior citizens.

Genealogy Sites

Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet — A very comprehensive list of links to genealogy resources on the Internet. If you are interested in genealogy, this is a great place to visit.

National Senior Citizens Law Center — Use this site to keep abreast of what's going on in Washington, and how the laws that are passed there are likely to affect senior citizens. You can also get legal information on topics such as age discrimination, Medicare, pension rights, and Social Security here.

SeniorLaw Home Page — This is another good legal site for senior citizens, including a list of elder law links on the Web, a list of attorneys specializing in elder law, a search engine, and articles on legal topics that affect senior citizens.

Online Investing

Financial Information on the Internet — links from the Fort Smith Public Library. This site has links to several good sites for financial news and information on the Internet.

The Motley Fool — This site is a good place to start if you need information about on-line investing. Its goal is to "educate, amuse, and enrich" the people who visit the site.

The Vanguard Group — Visit the online site of one of the most popular mutual funds around. You can find great information on numerous topics, including women and investing, retirement planning, and more.

Travel Information Online

Elderhostel — This web site for Elderhostel, a "nonprofit organization providing educational adventures all over the world to adults aged 55 and over," is a good way to find out about the places you can go and the things you can learn about. You can check out the Elderhostel online catalogs to find information about upcoming programs that interest you.
