Dewey Decimal Classifications

The Dewey Decimal System is named after Melvil Dewey, a librarian who lived in the late 1800s. Libraries use the Dewey Decimal System to keep books that are on the same subject together in one spot in the library, so that if you're looking for information about gardening, for example, you only have to look one place.

Want to test your knowledge of the Dewey system? Then check out "Do We Really Know Dewey?," an interactive site designed by sixth graders.
